About TrailPassport

TrailPassport was created by Devinson Pena and Jeanine Adam as co-creators to make Swiss hiking progress visible, personal, and trustworthy.

Official trail data

The hiking network is based on swissTLM3D. Source: Federal Office of Topography swisstopo (© swisstopo).

Independent app

Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Strava, Garmin, SchweizMobil, or swisstopo.

Privacy-first

Your uploads and GPS data are private by default. Public profiles are off unless you turn them on, and only show completed segments.

Proof, not surveillance

Optional proofs anchor only a privacy-safe hash — never your route, name, or email — to demonstrate a record existed and wasn't altered.

Our principles

  • • We don’t scrape providers, and we never ask for your Garmin or Strava password.
  • • User-uploaded GPX/TCX exports are the primary, durable path to your passport.
  • • We don’t run AI on your private activity data.
  • • We don’t put personal GPS coordinates on a blockchain.

Known limitations

  • Trail data: the app ships with a small demo network. Until official swissTLM3D is imported, completion is against demo segments only.
  • Map matching is a first-pass algorithm (v0.1.0). It is transparent (coverage + confidence shown) but can mis-match in dense urban networks or with very sparse GPS.
  • Completion rule: a short-segment rule (≥100 m or 85% of length) can be lenient on very long segments — it’s a tuning knob.
  • Garmin direct requires official API approval and is not enabled. Strava is optional and treated as a temporary preview; export GPX for permanent history.
  • FIT files are not parsed yet — export GPX or TCX instead.
